Seattle: A Story of Heart, Hope, and Home

In March 2018, Humble Design opened its doors in Seattle with a dream of addressing systemic homelessness by designing and furnishing homes. What followed was a remarkable journey of dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to serve families in need.

Through changing seasons and unprecedented challenges, the Seattle community rallied around our mission. From our first warehouse gifted by King County to creative solutions during the pandemic, our Seattle family demonstrated Humble Design’s ability to transform obstacles into opportunities. Even with some drastic changes our Advisory Board members have worked tirelessly to keep the spirit of Humble Design alive in Seattle. Their passionate commitment transformed six homes in 2023-2024, creating safe, dignified spaces for 21 individuals who were beginning new chapters in their lives. Each lamp placed, each bed made, each kitchen table set represented hope, dignity, and the promise of a fresh start.

The impact of Humble Design Seattle reaches far beyond the total of 169 homes that were furnished. It's found in the 356 children who now have their own bed to dream in. It's in the parent who could finally cook a meal in their own kitchen. It's in the 592 people who had their spaces transformed into homes, and in doing so, have transformed their lives.

Non-profit organizations must constantly assess how to best serve their communities with the resources available to them. After careful consideration and much reflection, we've recognized that it's time for a transition in how we serve the Seattle area. We will continue to serve the community with the remaining resources that were raised to support Seattle. The Advisory Board is creating a strategy for how to maximize the use of these funds.

While our physical presence will be gone, the impact of the work continues in every life that’s been  touched, every home transformed, and every story of hope written. Nothing done with such dedication and love is ever wasted – it lives on in the hearts of those served and in the positive change that ripples throughout the community.

As we close this chapter of Humble Design Seattle, we celebrate the countless volunteers, donors, board members, and partners who made our work possible. Their commitment to serving others with dignity, creativity, and love embodies everything Humble Design stands for. The lives touched and the homes transformed stand as a lasting testament to what passionate, dedicated individuals can achieve when they come together for a greater purpose.

Thank you, Seattle, for serving your neighbors with humility, creativity, and unwavering dedication. Your story is woven into the fabric of Humble Design's mission to turn houses into homes, one family at a time, changing lives for good.

To our Seattle community: The remaining funds raised for Seattle will continue to serve local families in need, guided by the dedicated board members who have championed this cause.
